Addressing Violence through Prophetic Theater( July 21-25, 2008)
This course examines how theater engages the question of violence.
African Spiritual Wisdom through Story-Telling, Dance, and Drums ( July 14-18, 2008)
We will share our own stories from our lives and our ancestry, and discuss how they illuminate our cultural and spiritual lives. We will also learn ancient dances from Africa: dances for healing, nature, and community life. The course will include cultural and spiritual films that come out of Africa and the African Diaspora. Art, Identity and Spirit ( July 21-25, 2008)
This is a workshop that explores the spiritual/cultural identity of participants utilizing written/spoken word, visual art, drumming, sacred voice and movement to tap into and share our innate healing and transformative power and energy. By cultivating an inner experience of art and spirituality we hope participants will carry away heightened awareness, strength and inspiration to their families and the communities they serve.
Body Prayer ( July 14-18, 2008)
This course melds the creative artists’ imagination with the need to cultivate a rich inner life in the midst of a chaotic world. The class will be active and interactive, giving students information by which to locate embodied prayer on a theological spectrum; however, the bulk of the course will be informed interactive experience. Justice Beyond Metaphor ( July 14-18, 2008)
This course examines how poetry speaks to social concerns and injustices through listening, reading, and composition.
Moving Energy ( July 21-25, 2008)
This course shares a toolkit of exercises and ideas to help facilitators utilize the creative process to fully engage participants to experience their interconnection and promote collaboration across cultures and faiths. At the core it works with “moving energy” through a series of fun and creative exercises that engage body/mind/spirit, using breath, movement, music, theater games and poetry to open the creative mind and develop group energy.
